John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of
the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall
have the light of life.
13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of
thyself; thy record is not true.
14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself,
yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but
ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I
and the Father that sent me.
17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is
true.
18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me
beareth witness of me.
19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye
neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known
my Father also.
20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple:
and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me,
and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I
go, ye cannot come.
23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are
of this world; I am not of this world.
24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye
believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them,
Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is
true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.”
1. The Light Of Life
2. Judgment That Is True
3. True Testimony
4. It Is Not Time Yet
5. Ye Shall Die In Your Sins
6. The Father Is True
1. The Light Of Life
In verse twelve of our text [in John eight] we have this: “I am the
light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but
shall have the light of life.”
In the book of Proverbs, chapter
twenty-eight we see an inexorable law established. “He that covereth his
sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall
have mercy.” [Proverbs 28:13]
The person who doesn’t cover his sin is
the one who will come to the light. The man, or woman, or child who
follows Jesus Christ will not walk in darkness. Jesus Christ is THE
LIGHT. HE will expose the works of darkness, which is SIN. The person
who FORSAKES sin is one who has the LIGHT of LIFE. Have you ever noticed
something about a TRUE believer in Jesus Christ? Here it is. They walk
in light. Everything about them, [that is, the BELIEVER] rings honest
and true. There just seems to a light in their eye; a gleam so to speak.
You can tell that they met [in a cataclysmic event] the Light of the
World … Jesus Christ.
2. Judgment That Is True
Now read verse fifteen, and sixteen in John eight: “Ye judge after the
flesh; I judge no man. And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am
not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.”
The TRUE LIGHT of the
world gives TRUE JUDGMENT. True judgment is righteous judgment, and
Jesus Christ will EXECUTE RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT! Read [Jeremiah 23:5-6]:
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a
righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute
judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and
Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be
called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
3. True Testimony
Back to our text in verse seventeen, and eighteen: “It is also written
in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. I am one that bear
witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.”
True testimony can be established when there are at least two
independent witnesses that will bear testimony to something as being a
fact.
In Deuteronomy chapter seventeen, verse six, and in chapter nineteen,
verse fifteen, is where it is written in THE LAW“that the testimony of
two men is true.” A matter can be established by this formula.
“One
witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any
sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at
the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.”
[Deuteronomy 19:15]
In the matter at hand, of whether or not, Jesus is the SON of God, we
have these two witnesses.
• God THE FATHER is witness number one,
• And God THE SON is witness number two.
This makes the testimony TRUE that Jesus Christ is the
SON of GOD … the
righteous BRANCH.
Now there is something else here we need to see. Ready? There is a
connection to be made to the mercy seat, which was upon the ark of
testimony in the wilderness, and to the MISSION OF MERCY by Jesus Christ
in the wilderness of this old world that we live in, my friend. The
mercy seat upon the ark of testimony is related to HIM, WHO came to
redeem them who were lost because of sin. Jesus Christ is the ONE WHO
received the TESTIMONY that HE is the
SON of GOD, THE MOST HIGH PREIST.
• The Two Tables of Testimony bear witness to The True Testimony [WHO is
Jesus Christ] written by the finger of God. [Exodus 31:18] “And he gave
unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount
Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger
of God.”
• The Mercy Seat can be said to depend on The True Testimony. [Exodus
26:34] “And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony
in the most holy place.” [Exodus 16:34] “As the Lord commanded Moses, so
Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.”
• The Testimony is to be kept inside [indwell] the Christian – [The True
Believers] in this age of GRACE. [Isaiah 8:16] “Bind up the testimony,
seal the law among my disciples.”
• Therefore, mercy and grace comes to us TODAY because of
THE TESTIMONY
of Jesus Christ. [Psalm 19:7] “The law of the Lord is perfect,
converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the
simple.”
4. It Is Not Time Yet
Verse twenty: “These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in
the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet
come.” Think about that! No one could lay a hand on HIM until it was the
RIGHT time. Now, even when the hour was come, Jesus Christ could have
stopped the whole thing … if HE wanted to stop it. HE is GOD come in the
flesh!
Turn to Matthew twenty-six. Zero in on verse fifty-three: “Thinkest thou
that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more
than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be
fulfilled, that thus it must be? In that same hour said Jesus to the
multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves
for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid
no hold on me. But all this was done, that the scriptures of the
prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and
fled. And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the
high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.” [Matthew
26:-53-57]
All that transpired in the forty-two months of Jesus Christ’s ministry
on this earth was prophesied in THE BOOK hundreds of years before it all
happened. Wow! There is no other BOOK in the whole world that is like
this BOOK! The Bible is only book … able to foretell a thing [or event]
before it happens … with one hundred percent absolute accuracy. Sum it
this way, with the Bible, you have a book, wherein are prophecies
[future events] GUARANTEED to come to pass, and become [historical
events]. All the prophecies concerning Jesus Christ were “done, that the
scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.”
5. Ye Shall Die In Your Sins
Verse twenty-four: “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your
sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” If
a man, or a woman, refuses to follow “the light of the world” [Jesus
Christ], then, they are willfully rejecting the “light of life” to their
own peril. Here are the FACTS!
• They will die in their in sins.
• They will wind up in HELL, all because there is no light in them;
TRUE
JUDGMENT!
Do not reject the LIGHT of LIFE! Please receive THE TESTIMONY from the
word of God that Jesus Christ is THE SON of GOD. In Isaiah 8:20 we have
this: “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to
this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
6. The Father Is True
Verse twenty-six, is where we will end this message. Here it is: “I have
many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true.”
Did you see that? There is the comfort to be had here. If the Father is
true, there will be “comfort” for all the children. What more can be
said? The Father is TRUE, and if you receive this testimony of Jesus
Christ, or in other words, if you receive as HIM as your
LORD and SAVIOR
[born again], you [The Christian] will be saying: GOD is
TRUE! [John
3:33] “He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God
is true.”
Go to [2 Corinthians 1:3]: “Blessed be God, even the Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all
comfort.”
You can REST in safety in the cleft of THE ROCK. You can have comfort as
an adopted son of God because the Bible says: God, The Father, is
TRUE!
The Father is TRUE.
John 8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and
all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
John 8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman
taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
John 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in
adultery, in the very act.
John 8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be
stoned: but what sayest thou?
John 8:6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to
accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the
ground, as though he heard them not.
John 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself,
and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first
cast a stone at her.
John 8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
John 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own
conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto
the last: and Jesus
was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the
woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath
no man condemned
thee?
John 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither
do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto
them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me
shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 8:13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record
of thyself; thy record is not true.
John 8:14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of
myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither
I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
John 8:15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
John 8:16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not
alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
John 8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two
men is true.
John 8:18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that
sent me beareth witness of me.
John 8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus
answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye
should have known my
Father also.
John 8:20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in
the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet
come.
John 8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall
seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
John 8:22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith,
Whither I go, ye cannot come.
John 8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from
above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins:
for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
John 8:25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith
unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
John 8:26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that
sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have
heard of him.
John 8:27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
John 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son
of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of
myself; but as my
Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left
me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
John 8:30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye
continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you
free.
John 8:33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in
bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
John 8:35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the
Son abideth ever.
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free
indeed.
John 8:37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me,
because my word hath no place in you.
John 8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do
that which ye have seen with your father.
John 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father.
Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do
the works of Abraham.
John 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the
truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
John 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We
be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
John 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would
love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of
myself, but he sent
me.
John 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot
hear my word.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your
father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode
not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh
a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of
it.
John 8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
John 8:46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth,
why do ye not believe me?
John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear
them not, because ye are not of God.
John 8:48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well
that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
John 8:49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my
Father, and ye do dishonour me.
John 8:50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh
and judgeth.
John 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying,
he shall never see death.
John 8:52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a
devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man
keep my saying,
he shall never taste of death.
John 8:53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead?
and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
John 8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing:
it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your
God:
John 8:55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should
say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know
him, and keep his saying.
John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it,
and was glad.
John 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years
old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Before Abraham was, I am.
John 8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid
himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of
them, and so passed by.
