The Apple of His Eye - Psalm 74The Apple of His Eye ... commentary of Psalm 74

The Apple of His Eye
… A commentary of Psalm 74

Verse Fifteen

Psalm 74:15: “Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.”

“…the fountain and the flood…”

The fountain and the flood are related.  Both the fountain and the flood involve water, and lots of it.

Water is a fluid most abundant and most necessary for all living beings created by God.  Pure water is colorless, transparent and has no taste nor smell.

All water found here on this earth, and found in the firmament above the earth has originated from the face of the deep.  The face of the deep is the SOURCE.

Psal 74 - The Apple Of His Eye

This face of the deep is frozen

We can know this to be the truth by making reference to the book of Job, chapter thirty-eight, verse thirty:

“The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.” [Job 38:30]

The source of all the waters is frozen!

The book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ shows this frozen mass of water is located in the sides of the north [Psalm forty-eight] before the throne of GOD.

See chapter four, verse six:

“And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.” [Revelation 4:6]

The glass sea is a frozen mass of pure water, and is transparent, and is perfectly beautiful, like unto crystal.

The source of this water in the face of the deep is from a fountain: a pure river of water of life.

We can get a glimpse of this pure river in the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, in chapter twenty-two, verse one:

“And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal; proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” [Revelation 22:1]

Now the underside of the sea of glass [the side facing the universe] is called the face of the deep.

We see this face of the deep in the First book of Moses called Genesis in the first chapter, verse two:

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” [Genesis 1:2]

In verses six and seven: We have a division of the waters:

“And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

“And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.” [Genesis 1:6-7]

In quantum physics this phenomenon can be shown by the concept of tunneling.  The waters of the sea of glass located in the sides of the north [outside the universe] [and in eternity] are divided by the firmament [a barrier] from the waters in the atmosphere above the earth and on the earth.

These same waters are tunneled to both places at the same time despite the interposing barrier [the firmament].

In verses nine and ten: We have another operation of division performed on the same waters:

“And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.” [Genesis 1:9 - 10]

In verses twenty through twenty-two, we see waters support life:

“And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.” [Genesis 1:20-22]

Now, we come to the flood.  This was the historic worldwide cataclysmic event which occurred in the year B.C. 2349.

In the First book of Moses called Genesis, in chapter six, verse seventeen the LORD states:

“And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.” [Genesis 6:17]

God brought the flood upon the earth for a purpose.  This purpose is revealed to us earlier in this same chapter.  We read in verses five through seven this:

“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.” [Genesis 6:5-7]

In the next chapter [chapter seven], the fountains were cleaved.  They were broken up.  Verse eleven:

“In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.” [Genesis 7:11]

Water, water, water everywhere to snuff out life because of man’s sin.

And when the mission was complete the LORD stopped the fountains.  We read in chapter eight, verse two:

“The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;” [Genesis 8:2].

Water can give life, and water can snuff life!

Water is so important that without it … a man will never be able to enter into the kingdom of God.  Jesus Christ HIMSELF told us this is so in the Gospel according to John, in chapter three, verse five:

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” [John 3:5]

The source of this water is from the face of the deep, and the face of the deep, which is the glass sea, is sourced from a pure river.  This pure river of the water of life is sourced from a fountain.

Psalm 74:15 again: “Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.”

Psalm 74 - The Apple of His Eye

“…thou driedst up mighty rivers.”

“That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:” [Isaiah 44:27].

God can do anything!   ANYTHING!!!

This includes drying up a mighty river!

Men may divert a river like Darius did when he conquered Babylon, but to command in a word to dry up a river in an instant of time takes a supernatural event [called a miracle], which is way beyond what man can do.  God does the miracles!

Turn to the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter nineteen, verse twenty-six.  It would behoove us to remember the words of the SON of GOD when HE was on this earth during HIS first advent:

“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” [Matthew 19:26]

ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD!   The things God does are called WONDERS.

The LORD GOD does wonders!

Turn to the book of Joshua, chapter three, verse five, and we will read there a wonder:

“And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.” [Joshua 3:5]

The people were to sanctify themselves [to set themselves apart unto God], and watch what the LORD would do when the priests stepped forward and placed their feet into the waters of the Jorden River.

Read verse thirteen:

“And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.” [Joshua 3:13]

Now for verses fifteen through seventeen:

“And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.” [Joshua 3:15-17]

The natural flow of the water in the river was stopped immediatelyAnd where did it go?  Upward it went … in a developing column of water [a heap] in defiance of natural laws.

The river bottom thus exposed was immediately desiccated and was made dry in an instant of time.   The LORD provided this WONDER as a SIGN forever to all of the people of Israel to remember for all generations.

See chapter four, verses six and seven:

“That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.” [Joshua 4:6-7]

Next, the LORD reverses the supernatural column to the natural flow of the Jordan River.

Verse eighteen:And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.” [Joshua 4:18]

Then lastly, God performed this miracle not only for them, but for all the people of the whole earth that they might fear the LORD your God for ever.

“For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.” [Joshua 4:23-24]

In the First book of Moses called Genesis, chapter two, verses ten through fourteen, there is mention of the original four mighty rivers that were formed by a greater river that went out of Eden to water the garden in the antediluvian world [before the Flood]. [B.C. 4004]

“And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

“The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.” [Genesis 2:10-14]

These four antediluvian, [pre-Flood] rivers were:

1.       The Pison

2.       The Gihon

3.       The Hiddekel [Tigris]

4.       The Euphrates

In our present postdiluvian world, the Euphrates River forms the longest and most historically significant river in all of western Asia and it runs a total distance of 1,740 miles.  The Euphrates is one of the two rivers of Mesopotamia with the other being the Tigris River. The Euphrates flows from the confluence of Kara Su and Murat Su in the town of Keban in Turkey to the ocean at the Persian Gulf.

We will now zoom in on the Euphrates River to a yet future day in prophecy.   Remember prophecy fulfilled becomes history.

In the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, in chapter sixteen, verse twelve, we read this:

“And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.” [Revelation 16:12]

The kings of the east will be enabled by the drying up of the river to position themselves [gather] to the battle of that great day of God Almighty:

Verse sixteen: “And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.” [Revelation 16:16]

A miraculous event!
